Ryohin Keikaku and Sustainability

Donations and Assistance

Basic Approach

Ryohin Keikaku conducts donation and assistance activities aligned with four themes based on our material issues, aiming to realize a “truthful and sustainable life for all.” We collaborate with organizations whose missions align with our goal of “delivering goodness to everyone,” including disaster recovery and humanitarian aid, disaster prevention initiatives, food and health, building regional futures, and supporting daily life and culture.
Furthermore, we are expanding the circle of mutual support by creating donation and assistance mechanisms that are accessible not only to the company itself but also to our customers and employees.

Ryohin Keikaku’s Initiatives of Donations and Assistance

Our goal is to revitalize communities by deepening interpersonal connections and to regain harmony with nature from a place close to home. We support various initiatives for a better future and the people driving them through our products and services.

1. Disaster Prevention and Emergency Humanitarian Assistance

・Emergency Disaster Assistance

Japan Platform

Ryohin Keikaku provides post-disaster recovery support through products and fundraising through organizations such as Japan Platform and the Japanese Red Cross Society, as well as local governments.
We match the amount of online donations received from customers in our stores, and the total amount is donated to efforts such as the disaster relief program of Japan Platform. The donations go toward material support and aid for evacuees, including food expenses. They can also go toward assessments of the damage.
In addition, Japan Platform is selected as a support recipient of the MUJI Online Fundraising system and the MUJI GOOD PROGRAM.

2. Food and Health: Supporting Life

・Pink Ribbon Campaign

The Pink Ribbon Campaign aims to spread information on breast cancer and to promote breast cancer screening. A movement that began in the United States in the 1980s, it has spread across the world, with the pink ribbon serving as a universal symbol. In Japan, it is estimated that 1 in 11 women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. Having said that, early detection and treatment increase the survival rate to 90%. However, the breast cancer screening rate in Japan is still low at approximately 30%.
MUJI sells products that are connected to the Pink Ribbon Campaign. Our hope is that this will lead to more women getting screened for breast cancer. We want women who are active at work and at home to be able to lead healthy lives every day. With that in mind, we support the Pink Ribbon Campaign through donations to two organizations that support the campaign (the Japan Cancer Society and the Japan Society of Breast Health).

Every year, Ryohin Keikaku donates a portion of the sales of innerwear products to organizations that support the Pink Ribbon Campaign.
The applicable products are MUJI’s built-in cup innerwear and bras in the ladies and maternity series. These funds are widely used in various activities in the fight against breast cancer, including support for the activities of patient and caregiver groups and training of mammography technicians, as well as in the maintenance of mammography equipment.
We have selected organizations that promote the Pink Ribbon Campaign as recipients of the MUJI Online Fundraising system and the MUJI GOOD PROGRAM.

・TABLE FOR TWO Program

TABLE FOR TWO International

Café&Meal MUJI in Japan supports the TABLE FOR TWO program promoted by TABLE FOR TWO International, a non-profit organization started in Japan, working to combat worldwide hunger issues.
With the TABLE FOR TWO program, when customers purchase a particular item from a list of applicable menu items, a JPY 20 donation (included in the purchase price) will be made.

Customers not only enjoy eating healthy meals, they are also helping by donating JPY 20, which is equivalent to one school lunch. In this way, hot school meals can be delivered to children in developing countries.
At Café&Meal MUJI, the donation menu that is provided, enables customers to participate in the TABLE FOR TWO program by paying an additional JPY 20 on applicable menu items.
We are also supporting the program through the MUJI Online Fundraising system and the MUJI GOOD PROGRAM

・Food Drive at MUJI stores

In order to reduce food loss, we conduct "food drive" activity at some of our MUJI stores in cooperation with local governments of each region. This is an initiative to collect foods (canned food, pouched food, dried food, dried noodles, beverages, condiments/seasonings, etc.) whose expiration dates are close, and to provide them to local welfare groups and facilities through food bank organizations.

3. Building Communities and the Future

・Supporting Children through art

<Organizations supported>

Kids Earth Fund

Kids Earth Fund is a nonprofit organization that donates art supplies, picture books and medical supplies to children around the world who have been traumatized by events such as disease, war and disasters.
Its efforts are devoted to mental health care using art, an idea that sprung from a wish to give these children a sense of warmth and hope.

MUJI shares that sentiment, and since 2008 has sold MUJI My Bags featuring children’s art. These bags feature paintings drawn with care by children for children, and for each bag sold, JPY 15 is donated to the Kids Earth Fund.
The power of the children’s paintings and the wonder of their creativity has drawn attention in Japan and worldwide. Today, the activities have expanded beyond simply holding drawing workshops for children, to include exhibitions of their artwork and collaborations with companies using their drawings.
We will continue to support the activities of the Kids Earth Fund through sales of MUJI My Bag printed with children’s artwork.
We are also supporting those activities through the MUJI Online Fundraising system and the MUJI GOOD PROGRAM.

・Product Development Project in Kyrgyzstan

Ryohin Keikaku supports the One Village, One Product (OVOP) movement promoted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and is jointly developing products with JICA. As part of our investment in communities, we develop products that make use of local specialties, and by sharing knowledge with producers and providing training and other technical support we aim to give producers the ability to conduct business independently.
In 2011, MUJI began selling felt products made exclusively using the wool of Kyrgyz sheep, crafted by hand without the use of stitching. From animal figurines to slippers for everyday use, these are warm and expressive products made with superior techniques and with devotion and care. They are sold in MUJI stores in Japan, as well as in stores across Europe, the United States and Mainland China.
This project has been approved as a Business Call to Action (BCtA) initiative by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), making MUJI the first retailer in Asia to receive such approval.
BCtA is a global initiative led by the UNDP with the aim of promoting businesses that achieve commercial success as well as promote sustainable development. Ryohin Keikaku contributes to the improvement of skills of local producers, especially women, and an increase in income they need to make a living. It aims to achieve community revitalization by enabling residents to utilize locally developed products, thereby promoting local residents’ social advancement and improvement in their status.

4. Supporting Daily Life and Culture

・Support for conservation activities for endangered species

We sell children’s printed t-shirts and “pochibukuro” (small, decorative envelopes) depicting endangered animals, and donate a portion of the sales to the Japan Committee for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN-J), which seeks to promote harmony between people and nature. We hope that wearing the t-shirts will encourage children to become involved in activities to protect the animals they depict, while also becoming interested in the reasons why the animals are endangered.
We are also supporting the program through the MUJI Online Fundraising system and the MUJI GOOD PROGRAM

・Supporting activities to protect Japan's rich natural environment

<Organizations supported>

The Association of National Trusts in Japan

The Association of National Trusts in Japan is an organization engaged in the “national trust movement” that protects nature through land ownership. It was formed as a national organization to promote the movement throughout Japan, bringing together groups conducting such activities in various regions. Since 2007, it has also acquired land itself to protect the rich natural environments remaining in each region, such as forests inhabited by endangered species and beautiful landscapes.
In addition, to preserve Japan's remaining rich natural environment for future generations, we have selected the Association of National Trusts in Japan as a support recipient of the MUJI Online Fundraising system and the MUJI GOOD PROGRAM.

Customer Participation

At Ryohin Keikaku, we have systems in place to gather and share feedback from customers in order to realize “a truthful and sustainable life for all.”

MUJI GOOD PROGRAM

In September 2025, the MUJI membership program was reestablished as the “MUJI Good Program.” This new membership program enables members to provide “good” to themselves, others and society. By showing appreciation, this program will help build positive relationships with customers, create enjoyment that makes them want to stop by our stores and assist them in making community contributions a part of their daily lives.
Members can accumulate points every time they use it, and the points can be used not just in everyday shopping, but also for purposes such as supporting community activities and donations.

MUJI GOOD PROGRAM (Japanese Only)

MUJI Online Fundraising System

The MUJI Online Fundraising system makes donations as easy as shopping when customers want to do something to help. Started in 2011, it allows for donations in units of JPY 10 or JPY 100 from the MUJI online store. Ryohin Keikaku collects all the donations and delivers them to the designated organizations.

Employee Volunteer Activities

Volunteer Time Off System

To encourage and support employees’ volunteer activities, Ryohin Keikaku has a system in place that allows employees who wish to participate in volunteer events in the local community to do so as part of their work after consulting with their supervisors.
Employees are also able to take up to 20 days of volunteering leave per year to participate in volunteer activities on their own. In addition, employees can take up to 10 days of special paid annual leave per year to participate in social contribution activities offered by the Company.

Disaster Volunteer Activities in Partnership with PEAD

Beyond offering products and disseminating information related to disaster preparedness, we have introduced a disaster volunteer program in cooperation with Platform of Emergency Assistance in the Disaster (PEAD) to back each employee’s voluntary efforts aligned with our corporate purpose, and to contribute to local communities.
In this program, employees who wish to volunteer receive training from PEAD to learn “What you should know before volunteering in a disaster area.” In addition, when a disaster occurs, we are able to obtain the most current information about the disaster area in cooperation with PEAD, which helps us to support the participation of employee volunteers who take part in this program.
We also back up employee participation by providing special paid leave for volunteering.
