Ryohin Keikaku participates in the following initiatives to deepen its understanding of social issues on a global scale and to continuously improve its business activities.
United Nations Global Compact
In September 2013, Ryohin Keikaku joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), a global initiative aimed at achieving sustainable growth for the international community. In accordance with the UNGC’s ten principles in the areas of protection of human rights, the elimination of unfair labor practices, environmental responsibility and the prevention of corruption, Ryohin Keikaku will contribute to the creation of “a truthful and sustainable life for all through our products, services, stores and business activities; believing human society rich in heart, with balanced relationship between human, nature and artifacts.”
The United Nations Global Compact Better Work Programme is a partnership between the United Nations International Labour Organization(ILO) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. Ryohin Keikaku has been participating in the Better Work Programme since 2016. This initiative brings diverse groups together—governments, global brands, factory owners, and unions and workers—to improve working conditions in the garment industry and make the sector more competitive.
Japan Platform for Migrant Workers towards Responsible and Inclusive Society
The Japan Platform for Migrant Workers towards a Responsible and Inclusive Society works with companies and organizations that support the platform’s Code of Conduct, which is based on international standards, to improve the working and living conditions of foreign workers in Japan. Ryohin Keikaku has been a member of the platform since May 2022.
The CDP Supply Chain Program uses the CDP disclosure system as a platform to request suppliers to disclose environmental information. Suppliers can eliminate the need to respond to different questionnaires and surveys from multiple stakeholders by disclosing information through the CDP system. Ryohin Keikaku has been a CDP supply chain member since FY2023/8.
Since joining the Japan Sustainable Palm Oil Network (JaSPON) in December 2023, we have been exchanging information with relevant organizations and other companies, and are creating a roadmap to facilitate the procurement of certified palm oil.
In 2023, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry established the Circular Partners program aimed at helping to realize a circular economy and promoting collaboration among industry, government and academia. Ryohin Keikaku has been a member of the program since 2024 and is promoting initiatives toward the realization of a circular economy.
