Aiming for a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from raw material procurement, material production and product manufacturing per unit of product sales by 2040*1
Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd. (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Satoshi Shimizu) has set a reduction target for Scope 3 “Purchased goods and services (Category 1)” to reduce GHG emissions across its entire supply chain. The company aims to reduce GHG emissions from aw material procurement, material production and product manufacturing per unit of product sales by 30% by FY2040/8 compared to FY2021/8*2. This target was announced at “ESG Briefing 2026”.
Since its founding, Ryohin Keikaku has been engaged in product development and various business activities while consistently addressing societal challenges, with the goal of realizing“a truthful and sustainable life for all.” Currently, the entire company is committed to ESG management and is advancing a variety of unique E (Environmental), S (Social), and G (Governance) initiatives.
In FY2025/8, Scope 3 emissions accounted for approximately 96% of the MUJI Group’s total GHG emissions (Scope 1, 2, and 3)*3; therefore, reducing GHG emissions across the entire supply chain is critical to realizing a decarbonized society. In particular, since Scope 3 Category 1 emissions account for 74% of total Scope 3 emissions, we have identified emissions related to raw material procurement and material production and product manufacturing as priority areas for reduction and have established the following target.
[Target]
By FY2040/8, we will reduce Scope 3 Category 1 GHG emissions from raw material procurement, material production and product manufacturing by 30% per unit of product sales compared to FY2021/8.
*1 This target is an intensity target based on GHG emissions per unit of product sales.
*2 The base year is FY2021/8, in line with the reduction targets for Scopes 1 and 2.
*3 Scope 1: Direct emissions from the company’s own operations; Scope 2: Indirect emissions associated with the use of purchased electricity, heat, etc.; Scope 3: Indirect emissions related to business activities other than Scope 1 and 2.
*Note: The target may be revised as necessary, considering the progress of future initiatives and improvements in data accuracy.
Ryohin Keikaku will work to reduce environmental impacts across the entire supply chain while driving business growth, with the aim of realizing a decarbonized society.
