Spaces that builders and users create together for a lasting sense of attachment
We consider the whole town as “the place where we live,” and design spaces in diverse areas utilizing regional resources. The things we value most are material selection that takes into consideration the natural environment and regional resource circulation, architectural design that incorporates many natural materials such as wood, iron and earth walls, and the process of co-creation for spaces that users will continue to feel attached to after they leave. MUJI is involved in a wide range of operations, from the design and construction of large-scale wooden facilities to sales of detached houses, apartment renovations, the design of offices, public spaces, and residential facilities, and the design of recycling friendly office fixtures and other products suited to these spaces.
Projects
1. Workplace Construction
Company cafeteria Tsudoi
The place of work we envision is more than just an office. We think of all spaces where employees spend time, including the cafeteria and lounges, as “the place of work,” regardless of job type and work-style freedom. We reexamine the diverse challenges these spaces present, and, together with the people who work there, consider ways to create long-lasting environments and guide them toward improvement.
2. Accommodation Facility Renovation
MUJI room SAKAMOTOYA
We are shining a light on idle regional resources, such as abandoned houses, vacant facilities and underutilized nature, and designing accommodation facilities in a way that makes the most of their appeal. With the goal of creating accommodations where visitors can discover new charms of the region, we are renovating some MUJI STAY facilities, as well as municipal housing for migration promotion and employee facilities for companies.
3. Public space projects that utilize wood
MUJI Kashihara OpenMUJI
We are designing train stations, childcare facilities, and other public spaces to make them feel more open, while establishing networks with local residents and local businesses. Moreover, we value wooden spaces that make use of local resources in fixtures, furniture and interior materials.
4. Wooden Building
MUJI Hita
Leveraging the technology and experience we have gained in providing over 3,000 wooden detached houses, we are designing and constructing Japan’s first ZEB-certified large-scale wooden buildings with more than 2,000 m2 of floor space for corporate applications.
5. Renewal Business for Apartments and Buildings
Apartment complex renewal case studies
We are emphasizing performance improvements for apartment buildings and complexes, and provide ZEH renovation with a focus on the comfort of residents. We place importance on not only renovation, but also on designs that incorporate intangible aspects, such as planning and promotion of local community development.
Services
1. Corporate Space Design Products
We sell corporate space design products that have been developed from MUJI store and office spaces, and from the variety of other sites.“MUJI room essentials” is MUJI’s bulk purchase service for corporate customers, with products including furniture and fixtures, interior materials, equipment, materials and furniture made from Japanese wood.
Based on the concept of “A house that can be lived in for a long time,” we offer four types of houses: Wooden House, Window House, Plain House and Vertical House. Our semi-order homes, which are customizable from the size to the layout, encompass universality as a place for living, and provide a blank canvas to create one’s own lifestyle.
In addition, we offer the “MUJI INFILL 0” renovation service based on the concept of “A home that embraces every ways of living as they are.” Rather than fixed housing built as a standardized product, it is aimed at creating homes as a flexible backdrop for the individual lifestyles of people living there.
